    Is there a way to avoid the trains in the main mod from just popping into view?

    if you are using a mod for real traffic density, this cannot be avoided. you can try to install the addon for long trains below the addon for short trains, this will expand the spawn radius restrictions of the trains, and may be able to prevent popping into view, but this will also greatly reduce the overall traffic density
