Not sure why map makers do this. Giants base-game maps are 2K by 2K, which is a 2x map (stock).
A 4x map is 4K by 4K.
You're calling yours 64x even though the map is 16K by 16K. Maps are listed or name by their square area either.
The map size is not the peimeter, is the area. The area of West End is 64x bigger than Elmcreek base map.
Let me explain:
1x map 2km x2 km = 4 km2 (like Elmcreek)
4x map 4km x 4km = 16 km2 (NF Marsch, Ralles Map) The area 16 km2 is 4x bigger than Elmcreek 4 km2
16 mxap 8km x 8km = 64 km2 (Wild West, Cornbelt) The area 64 km2 is 16x bigger than Elmcreek
64x map 16km x 16km = 256 km2 (West End) The area 256 km2 is 64x bigger than Elmcreek
the next size is 256x map 32km x 32km = 1024 km2 is 256x bigger than Elmcreek.
The game engine can't handle this size.
Then why does Giants call their base-game maps 2x?
