For those of you wondering...
Yes, it is possible to convert mods without Giants Editor 10 and only using Notepad/xml modifications. However, for mods with many materials it can be a real pain and take a lot of time. Especially if the mods 3D model does not have parts separated by material (since it seems that parts need to be separated by material now).
That being said, I do have good progress with converting the Superior trailers. There is still a lot left to do yet though.
